5 USEFUL TIPS TO KEEP YOUR HVAC HEATING BILL LOW THIS WINTER

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) are sometimes found in homes, however they are mostly used in office settings in and around Birmingham to create a comfortable, pleasant and safe working environment. But this comfort does not come cheap. Air conditioning systems can be one of the most expensive costs to many business owners, so when it gets to winter it is important that you try to keep your bills down by using your HVAC economically and effectively.

But don’t worry, in order to do this there are a number of steps you can take.

Whether your system is in the office or at home, making sure that it is thoroughly checked each year means that you can be confident that it is running efficiently and effectively. Finding a reputable company which specialises in heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance in Birmingham will be your key to ensuring that your system works well all year round, so do your research before choosing one. When your maintenance company come to maintain your HVAC system there are a number of checks that they will carry out.

  • They may check all of the filters both inside and outside the office to ensure that they are clean. They will also replace any that are damaged or old.
  • They may check your heating ducts to ensure that no warm air is able to escape from them before it reaches the vents.
  • They may check all of the system for leaks and seal them if found

An ineffective heating system will cost you more money in the long run, so it is important to get it checked regularly.

Don’t Heat Unused Areas

Again, whether your heating system is in the office or at home, it is important that you do not waste valuable power and money eating areas that are not in use. Try to ensure that any vents or thermostats in unused areas are turned off. It may be worthwhile doing the same thing in areas that are only used for a short amount of time. Often, the heating from rooms will transfer through to an adjacent room; so rather than heating an infrequently used room for the whole day, you can use it comfortably without heating it.

Control the Temperature

It is possible to cut your monthly energy bill by as much as 10% if you lower your thermostat by a couple of degrees. In most cases, you, and your staff or your family won’t even notice the change in temperature if you move your thermostat from 77° down to 75°. If you have a programmable thermostat then make sure your heating is switched off when nobody is around – either when everyone is out of the house if it is the home thermostat, or overnight if it is an office thermostat – is an excellent way to reduce your energy bills during the winter.

Make Sure You Are Insulated

When it comes to saving money on your energy bills within your home, installation is the best way to do this. Having roof insulation, while insulation and double glazing are some of the most effective ways to reduce your energy consumption within your home; so if you are not insulated, it is important to think about doing so. There are a variety of government schemes available at the moment which may entitle you to free or highly discounted insulation, so it is worth researching your options.

Take Advantage of the Warmth You Produce

Finally, try to make the most of the heat you produce on a daily basis. The sun is shining in through the windows, make sure the curtains open to allow the heat in. If you use the oven to cook a meal, leave the oven door open once you have switched it off and allow the heat to spread throughout the room. It is also worthwhile ensuring that there is nothing over the vents when the heating is on – having pieces of furniture stopping the heat from getting into the room will drastically decrease the effectiveness of your heating systems.

So now that you know the tips and tricks to lowering your heating bills this winter, just make sure that you do something wonderful with the money you are saving.
